The Gobind Ballabh Pant University is one of the first agricultural universities in India. Initially, set up by the name of UP Agricultural University through UP Act XI-V of 1958, the university was rechristened as Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology by amending the same act as UP Universities Re-enactment and Amendment Act 1972. The university is considered as landmark in the promotion of agricultural studies and research in India. It has also paved the way for the establishment of 31 other agricultural universities in the country.
