Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) was officially established on 1st of June 1996 under the act of “Karnataka State Open University Act of 1992”, with the aims of introducing & promoting the scheme of “open university” & “distance learning” in the Karnataka state along with harmonizing & shaping the standard of such a scheme in the state of Karnataka. The KSOU has its head office in the Mysore city. The KSOU was instigated by the Government of Karnataka State. The purpose is to give the education to those segments of society who cannot attend regularly full time / part time educational programmes offered by the universities.
